Amanda's weekly new album review

One Direction "Four"

It's hard to believe One Direction are already releasing their fourth studio album. In fact, it's so hard to believe it that they decided to name the record "Four", just to make sure we would all remember. On "Four", One D proves that they can release songs that don't fit the typical boyband mold that might be expected of them. They successfully attack a range of sounds on this record, from the 80s rock sounding "Where Do Broken Hearts Go", to the folksy, Mumford and Sons sounding "Ready to Run". While a lot of the songs sound like they had inspiration plucked from various different decades in music, they all also have the classic pop element we expect. And, of course, it wouldn't be a One Direction record without a couple adorable love ballads. "18" and "Fool's Gold" hold solid ground on that front. Overall, on "Four", One Direction offers sounds we've enver heard from them before and, while possibly losing cohesiveness, the boys prove they can test their limits and won't be restrained to one sound of music.
