Taylor Swift "1989"
If there's one thing almost everyone knows about me, it's that I'm obsessed with Taylor Swift. I have been for 8 years, since she first released Tim McGraw as a single, and that love hasn't changed with this new album and new sound. Many other Swifties will agree with me that Taylor has both changed very much since the beginning, yet also stayed the same. Sonically, 1989 is very different from her past releases. With darker tracks like "I Know Places" and sexier sounding tracks like "Style" and "Wildest Dreams" Swift shows that she's growing up. On the flip side, "How You Get the Girl" and "I Wish You Would" are dreamy tracks about a yearning for love, a familiar theme with Swift. "Blank Space" and "Welcome to New York" are upbeat feel-good tracks, right up there with her hit "Shake It Off", that'll leave you irresistibly singing along.
Every track on 1989 is washed over with a perfectly pop sound, a possible turnoff to fans of her previous country-crossover vibe. However, no artist can stay the same forever, and Swift clearly changed in the right direction with this release. The lyrical genius and wonderful composition behind every song make it impossible to call 1989 anything less than a masterpiece.
